Weather unpredictability is one of the many wonderful things about landscape photography. 

I have great respect for forecasters but when they get it wrong in my favour, I am always delighted. 

When it is suggested that the weather will be 'changeable' then that is the time to get out into the landscape. 

No rain storms were anticipated on that day yet I et off in a rain storm. On arrival the magnificent forbidding rain cloud was slowly receding. Looking up and behind me, I saw a narrow horizontal band of clear sky. I often find that the clouds that do 'not' feature in a landscape photograph are sometimes more useful than the ones that do.  Using their shadows in subduing or revealing areas within the landscape. 

There was a truly electrifying moment, when I realised that the band of cloudless blue sky behind me may be of sufficient width to completely illuminate the landscape from the very front right to the distant horizon. 

I became obsessed by this band of clear sky which was followed by another yet more heavy rain cloud.
