Cézanne painted Montagne Sainte-Victoire, near his home city of Aix-en-Provence, over sixty times.

When I arrived to have a go many years later, I was thankful to find the smallest of punctuations, formed by the black rectangle of a doorless shed. The clefts in the mountain appeared to link with both the tiled roof and the furrows in the soil; all overseen by the altocumulus sky.

I remain somewhat haunted by what Cézanne may have thought of my photograph.
